A Community Involved
The City of Thunder Bay recognizes the need to make our city more environmentally conscious and have been working hard to encourage everyone to start recycling. By encouraging us to start recycling they make us aware of what we are doing to make Thunder Bay an environmentally friendly community. By becoming an environmentally friendly community, we are contributing to the ongoing efforts in Canada to start preserving what we have in our country, and making sure it is just as beautiful when our grandchildren have grandchildren. If we don’t start becoming aware of what we are doing now, what we see here today won’t be here in the future.
There are plenty of ways to getting involved in the city in regards to getting yourself more environmentally friendly.
1. The first thing is to recycle and compost. It’s the simplest way to get involved. Let it grow from there.
2. How about just carrying cloth bags with you when you go shopping? You are reducing the amount of plastic bags you are going to be taking home with you.
There are some excellent groups in the city who are taking action on how we are looking at our environment and trying to make a change as well. If you are looking for more ways to get involved, you should check out their websites on our community links page.
Another way to get yourself into the mind frame of recycling –
1. Support those local businesses that recognize the need to recycle as well. All of our sponsors have joined us in this campaign. They recognize that we are all part of this community and we can only make a stronger impact if we work together. These businesses are paving the way to make the world a greener place. We encourage you to check out who’s Keen on Green in the city.
You are never too small to make an impact, so don't think that since you're the only person on your street with a blue bag, you don't make a difference. You do. You're sending out just a bit less garbage than the others, and hey, you may inspire your neighbours across the street to Blue Bag it as well. Now doesn't that idea feel good?
If you are interested in getting involved with the Keen on Green initiative or want to know more, please do not hesitate to contact us.
