STAPLES Business Depot offers more than 2,900 active products across all of our sales channels containing some amount of post–consumer recycled content. We seek to develop or source new products that incorporate other environmental attributes beyond recycled content, including products using eco–friendly raw materials such as certified sustainable wood fibers and products that use less energy to operate.

Cell Phone Recycling

Customers can drop off old cell phones, rechargeable batteries and ink and toner cartridges throughout the year at any Staples Business Depot location across the country.

Recycle for Education

STAPLES Business Depot's Recycle for Education program is designed to help raise money for schools across Canada. The program launched September 15, 2004 and is raised almost $500,000 for participating schools for the 2006/2007 school year.

Every STAPLES Business Depot | BUREAU EN GROS store location across Canada has a recycle bin near the ink and toner cartridge area where customers, students, parents and teachers can drop off their empty ink and toner cartridges. For every eligible ink and toner cartridge a dollar will be donated to participating schools across Canada.

Donations to participating schools will be made in May 2009. In order to be part of this great fundraising program, schools must sign up between September 1 and December 31, 2008, to become a participating school.

A Little Light Can Go Along Way.

The 'Lights-Out' program will significantly save energy by reducing the heat load in the building making it easier for the heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) systems to keep the building cool.

  • 'Lights out' will reduce energy in stores by 300KW/ per day
  • 76 days in the program which means 22800KW /  per store
  • 148 stores are participating which is 3,374,400KW
  • Approx anticipated dollars avoided: $250,000
